Coach Peter Wall

For Peter, fencing is about challenging yourself in a unique and fulfilling way. During his twenty years of fencing he has competed nationally, trained for two years under master (and world champion) Julie Seal, earned competitive ratings in both foil and epee, and received a regional level referee rating.

In regards to coaching, he received the 'Moniteur de Fleuret' certification from the United States Fencing Coaches Association. This certifies that he is capable to provide fencing instruction in the form of group classes, and private lessons for beginner to intermediate fencers. He feels that his greatest coaching accomplishments are helping people find and learn a unique sport that fits their specific needs better than anything else.

Before coaching for Flatlands Fencing club he worked as the primary coach for Cache Valley Fencing Academy, where he introduced many people to the sport. He is excited to begin teaching in Lubbock, where he hopes to grow the sport even more through focusing on coaching individuals.

What Past Students Think

"Peter Wall makes fencing fun. He takes a balanced approach to training, splitting class time between drills and bouting (aka fighting), which provides a technical foundation plus plenty of opportunities to try things out and gain experience. Peter’s way of explaining things is very clear and easy to understand, which makes learning something new so much easier. His sense of humor makes class so enjoyable, it’s always a good time while still staying on-task. Peter genuinely cares about his students and has a knack for building a sense of community and comradery. He’s very supportive if you’re interested in competing, but he won’t pressure you if that’s not something you want to do. With Peter’s help, I started competing at local and national events and have even started wining some medals....Peter focuses on foil and epee, though he’s done some saber with me upon request. Aside from all that, I really appreciate the upbeat, supportive atmosphere in Peter’s classes. He makes an already fun sport even more enjoyable. I highly recommend him as a coach". - Stephanina M.

"My girls fenced casually with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) for two years before they started olympic fencing lessons with Peter. Within three months, they were able to consistently vanquish their usual foes in the SCA and decided to focus solely on olympic style fencing. Peter is an amazing coach. His infectious enthusiasm keeps his students engaged and wanting to come back for more, and his focus on the fundamentals of footwork and bladwork has put my children on equal footing at competitions with students from other clubs that have 2-3 more years of experience. I couldn't have asked for a better coach to help them fall in love with the sport and learn to compete in a healthy and sportsmanlike way".
